On Sunday, the CrewKIDs once again blesssed us in song. This time, donning costumes reflecting Jesus' birth, we were treated to beautiful Christmas lullabies.

An angel, whose halo fell just in the right place to hide the eyes of a sleepy shepherd!

Besides glorifying God, a few of the angels enjoyed a few minutes to ham it up for the camera.

The shepherd in the background has an amazing voice. And this little angel is rarely caught smiling. A precious moment indeed.

Missions is alive and well at Driscoll Baptist Church. Three youth, all sisters, have regularly been involved in ongoing missions projects both here and abroad. Within the last few months, LisaDawn R., and Kelly R., have prepared, organized and maintained a missions board. Each month when the board changes to reflect different aspects of missions work, missionaries, and how the gospel is being spread in the United States and throughout the world, the youth spend time praying for the missionaries. The missions board can be seen in the youth room and is definitely worth the time to check it out.

Most recently, LisaDawn R., and her other sister Katy R., took the opportunity to lead the Wednesday night CrewKID program so LisaDawn could get some practical, hands-on experience working with children before she leaves for the Philippines in July, to share the gospel with children there.

LisaDawn and Katy presented action songs the students loved, and watching these 'cool' youth sing and act out motions encouraged the students to really get involved. LisaDawn opened her Bible, and shared with them about Elijah and the prophets of Baal, and played games to reinforce the Bible story. The students had a great time and one child shared that she wanted them to teach every week!

Collectively, LisaDawn and Katy have been to Ukraine, Costa Rica, and South Korea sharing the love of Jesus by leading VBS, facilitating Bible Studies and witnessing to the children one on one. They are missionaries, at home and throughout the world, and they have taken literally Jesus' commandment in Matthew 28:19-20, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Taste of Italy!

This afternoon, our youth treated us to a taste of Italy. Everything from the music, to the table decor, to the menu provided just the right ambiance for an Italian experience. Our students were the picture of Christ with their servants' hearts and exemplary attitudes. It made for a perfect Sunday afternoon.

A Singing, an Auction & a Meeting!

Sunday always brings opportunities for worship, and this past Sunday was no exception. Our CrewKIDs entered the morning worship service waving palm branches and blessed us in song. Thanks to Mary F. for selecting some beautiful hymns to honor our Lord and congregation on Palm Sunday. The solid words of such favorites as, "At the Cross", "Were You There", and "Come Christians Join to Sing" brought back sweet memories to those who grew up singing hymns, and introduced a new generation to some beloved, traditional favorites.

After worship, everyone was encouraged to join us for a light lunch and Youth Auction. Special thanks to Lisa R. and Nikki R. for coordinating and organizing a wide array of gift baskets, tempting desserts and hand made gifts which were auctioned off for this summer's youth events. Our youth offered up their honest work ethic in exchange for money to be put toward camp and various youth group activities. Thank you to our congregation for your benevolence and impact in helping the youth to earn nearly $1300 toward their expenses. Our youth are going to have a great summer, and we're praying God will bless and enrich them at each of their outings.

Thursday saw our 2011 VBS meeting in full swing, and what an attendance. Nearly every teacher, worker and youth helper was there to begin gearing up for another amazing year of Vacation Bible School.

On Sunday, we had the distinct privilege of honoring a group of people who have loved the church through the years, who have weathered storms, added insight, wisdom, spiritual counsel, and advice that only comes with the maturity of living a full life and having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Thank you, senior adults, for going before us and setting the example. You are appreciated, respected and very deeply loved.

Certainly not everyone was available for the picture Sunday, but we did have an amazing group show up with smiles!

The Results Are In!

Saturday evening saw a fierce, yet loving, competition between six guys who made some pretty amazing and delicious chili at the Fifth Annual Men's Chili Cook-off! Everyone in attendance had a great night, with Driscoll family and a number of visitors voting on which chili they liked the best! With all the votes in, the numbers were close. Ultimately though, it was Pastor Mike who reclaimed his crown, winning first place for the best chili of the evening. Runner up was Dave H., and third place went to Andrew L.

A heart felt thanks to the other contestants, Bob L., Bob H. and Grant C. for their enthusiastic participation and fantastic chili. If you weren't able to attend this year, make plans now to be there next year. And guys, you've got an entire year to perfect your chili making, so pull out the crock pot and get busy cooking!

Valentine Dinner!

The Valentine Dinner, sponsored by the youth as a fundraiser, turned out to be a fabulous evening, enjoyed by all who attended. The 4 course dinner, complete with appetizer and dessert, was spectacular and received rave reviews.

Simple, yet elegant tables were adorned with single roses, candles and chocolates, while festive ice breaker game sheets kept early arrivals entertained.

There was something for everyone, even our four-footed friends, on the auction table, where six donated baskets were silently auctioned off to the highest bidder.

And last, but certainly not least, Rob Riverbanks made a guest appearance as the emcee for the "Honey I Can't Remember Your Name" game where four married couples competed for a prize in a hilarious rendition of the "The Newlywed Game."

It was truly an uplifting evening for all who bought tickets. The service was impeccable, the food incredible, and the fellowship was glorifying to our Lord and Savior.

Thanks to Dan, Lisa, Melinda, Carolann and the youth for participating in and providing a most memorable evening.

Parmesan Chicken Recipe
(courtesy of Melinda)

3/4 C. Bisquick
1/2 C. Parmesan cheese
4-6 chicken breasts
1/2 cup butter (1 stick), melted
1 can evaporated milk

Mix the Bisquick and Parmesan cheese together and add a sprinkle of paprika.
Dip chicken breasts in evaporated milk and roll in cheese mixture.
Place in 9x13 baking dish sprayed with non-stick cooking spray and pour melted butter over chicken.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour
Enjoy!

Hunger Bites!

On October 31st the youth group participated in a great cause....Hunger Bites. Spearheaded by the talented and organized Deanna I., twelve youth, donning custom tees, met at the home of Mike and Jaylynn, divided up into teams and headed out. Sponsors Dan M., Doug K., Holly and Brett H., and Carolann H., drove the students through the neighborhoods collecting canned foods and other non perishable items. All together, the students brought in 611 items for the Second Harvest Food Bank. Way to go! What an amazing ministry. They were missionaries in their own back yard, spreading the love of Christ through their words and actions.

Sweet Retreat!

The 2010 Ladies Retreat was spectacular. Guest speaker Laurie Kuykendall led an inspiring Bible study on our spiritual journey, the baggage we carry with us, and the grace of Christ which allows us to leave it at the cross.

We participated in thought provoking and insightful break out groups and had amazing prayer sessions, all the while making new friends and investing in each other as women of faith.

The retreat was relaxing and rejuvenating not only for the spirit, but for the body as well. Our planning team prepared games, crafts, bonfires and free time, each complete with plenty of snacks and opportunity for fellowship.

Ross Point Retreat Center offered up incredible food and comfortable accommodations, while the planning committee ensured every little detail was accounted for, right down to the gift bags and box of candies left on our pillows.

It was an experience that left us searching our hearts, renewing our commitment to Christ and hoping and praying we get the opportunity to do it all again next year. Sincere and heart felt thanks to Janice, Jaylynn, Cathy, Cheryl, Sandy and Kristol for all your planning and dedication to make our first ladies retreat an enormous success.

Friday Night.....

...is DATE NIGHT!!! Parents: Do you need a night out by yourselves? Are you tired of always dining at places with a slide because a nice dinner AND a reliable babysitter are too expensive? What about a movie that's not a cartoon (is there anything decent playing?), or a game night with friends? How about time alone to sit and read a book that doesn't have pictures?

Then Friday (July 9th) is your night. For a mere $20.00 per family (whether you have 1 child or 20) you can enjoy an evening to yourselves, knowing your children are in capable hands.

Drop them off at the church from 6pm-10pm and the youth (along with a few parent helpers) will make sure they are well cared for and having a great time while you're having a night out.

No need to sign up or make any calls, just show up!!!

Roofing Project!

Coming in well under budget and completed within one week's time, the new roof on the education building is finished and it looks fantastic. As a dedicated group of volunteers, church members gathered to demolish the old roof, and lay the new one, while others prepared snacks, lunches and beverages for the laborers. Despite the pouring rain, there was much laughter and fellowship accompanying the work, until it was completed.

Sincere thanks goes out to everyone who was involved, who took time off work, and gave of themselves to make our place of worship more functional and attractive. You are a blessing!

Ministry Fair SUCCESS!!!

The 2010 Ministry Fair was beautifully laid out and amazingly successful. The ministry booths were informative and well represented, and everything from fliers, to pamphlets, business cards and candy was available to spread the word about how each ministry performs and how individuals could be a part of it. A great deal of time and preparation went into the set up of each booth, and we would like to offer sincere thanks to everyone who participated and devoted their efforts to making this event a great success.

NW Baptist Student Conference!

On April 30-May 1, 2010 Northwest Baptist youth, friends, and youth leaders will gather for the annual NWBC Student Conference. This event for junior and senior high youth and sponsors will be held at Crossroads Community Church in Vancouver, Washington. The theme this year is “Roots”. The theme verse is Colossians 2:6-7. Be sure to check the church bulletin for additional information and notify Pastor Mike if you're interested in attending. Cost is $70 per student. It's going to be GREAT!!!

Rock & Worship Road Show!

The 2010 Rock & Worship Road Show was outstanding!!! Even the 45 minute wait in the drizzling rain couldn't dampen the spirits of Jon, Mikela, Nick, Bailey, Coralyn, and Lynsey, who I'm proud to say were exemplary models of Christ before, during and after the show. I was a little unsure what to expect since this was my first Road Show concert and I had heard some of the bands were pretty wild. However, I was pleasantly surprised when each band gave the glory to God before the performance and we were able to experience a great evening of music, worship and praise!

The most memorable band for me was definitely Mercy Me. Not only were the band members decked out in suits, their music, lyrics and performance made it evident they serve the One True God. As the concert drew to a close, Mercy Me left the stage while the audience was still singing. While some people were skeptical of this approach, I'm convinced they did it that way so that when everything was finished, all the glory would go to God instead of the band. AWESOME!

They do more than smile and hand out bulletins on Sunday mornings. They ensure pens and offering envelopes line the backs of the pews, they count the number of worshipers in service, they lock doors, pick up trash, sweep the sidewalks, assist people to and from their vehicles and the list goes on. Brown Bag Bunco!

"One of the funnest things I've ever done." That's what Annie W. thought of the most recent Women's Ministry event "Brown Bag Bunco." Nearly 30 women comprising church members and friends showed up with brown bags containing a regiftable item to be exchanged white elephant style at the event. Everything from gag gifts to adorable and fun trinkets were brought out to incite laughter and be fawned over. Prizes were awarded for the highest score, the lowest score and of course the most Buncos overall.

While the ladies snacked on home made goodies and enjoyed each others company the afternoon passed much too quickly. If you missed out, don't feel bad, the women had such a great time it was decided it should be repeated.....often. Watch the church website for upcoming Bunco games!

New Year's Eve 2009!

If you were unable to attend the church wide New Year's Eve game night you were missed, and you missed a wonderful evening. About 30 people showed up to play everything from Scattergories, Bible Tri-Bond and What-If, to Cash Cab, Farkle and Trivial Pursuit.

The kids had a great time throughout the night with foam swords, swim noodles, glow sticks and beach balls. And for those with a little less energy, paper and markers were available for expanding their imaginations.

Jeanette brought her world famous (well, they could be) jam thumbprints, JayLynn baked a cherry crisp that was to die for and everyone else pitched in their favorite desserts, snacks and finger foods. There were also some relish trays for the health conscious, or those who wanted to begin their New Year's diet a little early.

After nearly 5 hours of laughing, snacking, playing games and visiting our evening drew to a close. Just before midnight we prayed, thanking God for the blessings of the past year, and finished the night with the kids racing to see who could crack the most party poppers before the snowball fight ensued.

What a blessed way to send off 2009 and ring in 2010, and below there are photos to prove it!

The Christmas Story

Luke 2

1 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.
2 (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.)
3 And everyone went to his own town to register.
4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.
6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,
7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.
9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.
12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."

Final Musical Performance!

Sunday's musical "From Our Herd to Your Herd", performed by CrewKID members, was a smashing success. The students were brilliant and did an amazing job. As a CrewKID Director I couldn't be more proud. It has been awesome to see the way God has worked in the children's department of our church. Largely, that has come from excellent leadership. So thank you Mary, Becky, Melinda, Jeff, Jan, Gina and Cory for your dedication on Wednesday nights. Your service to the Lord by teaching our children has now, and will have future great reward. "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6 (NIV).

CrewKID Christmas Musical!

The CrewKIDs have spent the autumn season working on a short Christmas musical, "From Our Herd to Your Herd." The picture below shows four of them faithfully practicing, singing and getting their lines memorized. Naturally there was a little clowning around, but the kids have worked hard and done an amazing job. Thanks to the help of a few dedicated women in the church, the students have costumes consisting of cowboy hats, bandannas and western vests.

On December 9th the kids performed at Manor Care Retirement Facility to great reviews. They did a fantastic job remembering their lines, and singing loudly enough for the people in the back to hear.

They will have a final dress rehearsal on Saturday, December 12th from 10-11:30am (with snacks to follow), followed by a performance for the congregation during the Sunday morning worship service on the 13th. The students have worked diligently and are pleased with their accomplishment. We hope you can make it on Sunday for their performance.
